South Carolina Film Incentives Update

Call to Action!
We only have until June 5th to get this passed!!

Our film incentive legislation bill #4815 is now being held up in a Senate sub-committee! We must all email, call, and write letters to Senator Yancey McGill of District 32. (His county is Florence, Georgetown, and Horry.) Urge him to get this out of committee and onto the Senate floor for a vote!
Senator J. Yancey McGill
508 Gressette Bldg. Columbia,SC 29201 (803) 212-6132 or (803) 779-7790 email: JYM@scsenate.org http://www.scstatehouse.net/members/bios/1249999850.html

Then you can copy the same information to the Senate Finance Chairman, Senator Hugh Leatherman. This bill will have to be passed by him since he is the chairman of the finance committee.

Senator Hugh Leatherman, Sr.
111 Gressette Bldg. Columbia, SC 29201 (803) 212-6640 or (843) 667-1152 email: SFI@scsenate.org http://www.scstatehouse.net/members/bios/1068181690.html

Please contact your local senator and let them know how important the film industry is to South Carolina. Not sure who your senator is? Just go to the website listed below and enter in your zip code. It's that easy!

Recap of the Charleston International Film Festival
The Carolina Film Alliance had a wonderful time participating in the first annual Charleston International Film Festival held May 1st - 4th. There were sell out crowds every night! The Charleston film community came out in full force to support this festival! We were able to have a "cocktail hour" party on May 3rd right before the 8pm movie time block. For those of you who stopped by, it was great to see you again! A special thanks to Summer Spooner (festival director) and Brian Peacher (managing director) for allowing the CFA to be involved and we look forward to a productive and busy time next year! I was also able to do some photography for them on opening night (May 1st). Feel free to check out the web slideshow for some highlights! North Charleston Arts Festival

The Carolina Film Alliance had our SC Film Showcase on May 9th at 7pm at the N. Charleston Fire Truck Museum. We were able to show several short films that were made right here in South Carolina. We even had the 2007 SC Production Fund winner, The Song of Pumpkin Brown directed by Brad Jayne. A very special thanks goes out to Marty Besancon who is the Cultural Arts Director at the City of North Charleston. She asked the CFA to participate again in this years festival and we certainly enjoyed it! Also thanks to the North Charleston Fire Truck Museum for letting us use their theater system. If you haven't been over there yet, I highly suggest taking the family there to see an incredible display of trucks and fire safety information. This is truly a remarkable venue to see!
